Health alerts of microbiological origin, mainly due to Salmonella and Listeria, are becoming more frequent and have greater media coverage. These two pathogenic microorganisms can have serious consequences in certain people in the population, which is why the analysis of Salmonella and Listeria is of special importance. After a recent ENAC audit, the Biolinea Int. laboratory has carried out a significant expansion in the scope of accreditation in accordance with the requirements of the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard for the detection of Salmonella and Listeria in food. The interest of the food industry in guaranteeing the safety of its products is growing and food business operators need to systematically verify the effectiveness of their control systems at all stages of the food chain. In addition, they also need to ensure the absence of pathogenic microorganisms in the final product, before dispatching their products to the points of sale to consumers. Magdalena Bennasar, director of the Biolinea laboratory: “The new accreditations represent a very important recognition of the effort made in the last two years. This recognition places us in a relevant position in the field of food and beverage analysis. We are proud of this achievement, which will undoubtedly contribute to our growth and consolidation as a reference laboratory in the Balearic Islands for the entire agri-food sector.
