NexBiolinea’s President and Scientific Director will deliver the international opening lecture at the 8th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Hospital Water Hygiene, taking place in Tokyo on November 15, 2026.
The Japanese Society for Hospital Water Hygiene (JSHWH) has invited Dr. Sebastian Crespi to share his European expertise in hospital water safety at its prestigious annual scientific meeting, to be held at the Kuramae Hall of the Institute of Science Tokyo, both in person and via live streaming.
Under the theme “Systematising Water Hygiene in Healthcare Facilities: Monitoring, Corrective Actions and Training for Sustainable Infection Prevention”, the congress will bring together specialists in water hygiene, microbiology and infection prevention in healthcare settings.
Dr. Sebastian Crespi will be the only invited international speaker, delivering a lecture entitled “Hospital Water Safety: A Practical European Approach to Preventing Waterborne Healthcare-Associated Infections.”
His presentation will address the main waterborne pathogens of concern in hospital environments, including Legionella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and nontuberculous mycobacteria, as well as the European Drinking Water Directive (EU) 2020/2184 and the practical implementation of Water Safety Plans in hospitals.
“It is an honour and a great pleasure to have been invited by the Society and the Congress President, Dr. Itaru Nakamura. Water in hospitals is not merely a building utility: in high-risk areas, it represents a clinical risk. Sharing our European experience in risk-based water management with Japanese colleagues is a valuable opportunity for mutual learning,” says Dr. Sebastian Crespi.
International Recognition of Our Scientific Expertise
This invitation recognises decades of research, expertise and commitment to water safety and public health, while strengthening NexBiolinea’s international standing as an organisation specialising in the prevention and management of health risks.
Hospital water safety is a particularly important field, where effective infection prevention requires combining scientific knowledge with rigorous management of water systems and healthcare facilities.
In this context, NexBiolinea provides an integrated approach encompassing:
- Microbiological and physicochemical water testing, through laboratories accredited by ENAC for the tests covered by their accreditation scope.
- Risk assessments in healthcare facilities, particularly concerning Legionella and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including critical areas such as intensive care units, neonatal units and haemodialysis departments.
- Development of Water Safety Plans (WSPs), in collaboration with hospital technical and healthcare teams.
- Independent scientific and technical consultancy, from interpreting analytical results to investigating incidents and defining corrective measures.
- Specialised training for professionals involved in water management and safety.

Science in the Service of Health
Waterborne healthcare-associated infections can have particularly serious consequences for vulnerable patients. Preventing them requires a shift towards management models based on risk assessment, monitoring and continuous improvement.
NexBiolinea’s participation in this scientific meeting provides an opportunity to share knowledge, exchange experiences with Japanese specialists and contribute to the development of more effective prevention strategies.
This recognition is a source of great pride for our entire team and reaffirms our belief that research, scientific rigour and international collaboration are essential to advancing public health protection.
